New York Times, 12th January 1890

The New York Times of January 12th 1890 describes a "ludicrous" incident at the cathedral in Killarney in County Kerry. A Dominican friar, Fr Burke, is making a fundraising appeal for the Presentation Brothers. The appeal appeared to have been quite long-winded and a Presentation Brother steps forward from the congregation to encourage Fr Burke to proceed to the collection. The Brother, who is quite overweight, appears in front of the congregation just as Fr Burke is elaborating on the meagre diet of the Brothers! Take a look at the article here or a pdf version here.
